I have a blood hound-pug mixed canine Norma Jean. She is a very sweet natured creature, highly energetic and so on. For all her sweetness, she is a pain when it comes to any form of hygiene. I have lost many battles trying to brush her blasted dog teeth. I keep telling her that her teeth will fall out, but that only works for my son. I found Greenies Dental Chews, I read that previous formulas used had caused digestive issues with many canines. However, it seems that they evolved their formula, the treats now dissolve rather easily. I had also read that Greenies Dental Chews received a very warm reception from many a dog. These dental chews also promised to help treat tartar and clean teeth while my furry beast happily gnaws away. I was very intrigued by this promise. If it were really true, then I could pull a ninja move and trick my dog into cleaning her teeth for me! I sat for a bit and weighed the cost of these Greenies. They seemed kinda expensive, but then again, taking her to the vet and having them do it was way more expensive.

If only the little heifer would let me brush her teeth I wouldn’t be here. But, as I was in fact, here, I ordered some. I must say that I am now quite pleased with them and find them well worth the money. At first my furry comrade was not at all impressed. She took the bone/brush from me politely and carried it away somewhere then came back and stared at me expectantly. I slightly bothered by this. Much later however, I happened upon her gnawing like mad.

I observed her over the next week to watch for signs of any incompatibility, none were found. I supposed that they worked out whatever issues they had previously. My dog hasn’t had too much trouble with bad breath, but her breath, but the tartar build up on her teeth has lessened since I’ve been giving her these treats. This is a pretty cool pet bed. I decided to buy a Coolaroo pet bed because of the excellent reviews that it had. I have been very impressed with this pet bed. I had a lovely fleece cushion that I had previously tried to persuade my dog to sleep on. She would lay on it, while I was around, then she would perch back upon the couch.

I thought that maybe the Coolaroo Elevated bed showed some promise. Once I coaxed my snob of a dog onto the bed she stayed, even when I wasn’t there. I was so amazed! This bed is lightweight, so I can move it easily from room to room. I imagine that because the bed is elevated that it keeps Norma Jean pretty cool and comfy.

Its pretty sturdy, so I am sure my dog shall be using it for years to come. Plus Norma Jean stays off of my furniture now. Nor does she try to smother me to death in the night with her dog body. Norma Jean seems completely content to sleep on her Coolaroo pet bed, therefore, so am I!

The Solvit Hammock Seat Cover it one of the most useful pet supplies that I own. My dog loves trips in the car. I love taking my dog for trips in the car. However, I do not love cleaning her hair from the car each time she goes for a ride. Norma Jean sheds quite a lot and her hair always manages to end up in very inexplicable places and it drives me insane.

The Solvit Hammock certainly solved a many of my dog/travel woes. The seat cover fits well into my car, the straps slip around the headrests very simply. Its a very simple set up indeed. But maybe my favorite feature is that with a hammock design, my dog can no longer fall or go exploring in the floorboard.

She doesn’t even try to stand on it, she now sits or lays in the back seat now. Also, the seat cover has created a barrier from the front seat to the back seat, so my dog never tries to jump up front anymore. I am so pleased with this seat cover! It does a very splendid job of keeping the upholstry in my car safe and it also keeps my furry friend safe as well. Its a win-win!

Clipping Norma Jean’s nails is something, that thankfully I only have to do once a month. However, she has so far made that a miserable experience. I have actually cut through the quick once because she moved so suddenly. I never want to repeat that again, nor does Norma Jean. I took her to groomers for her nail care for some time because I was afraid that I might hurt one of her nails. Taking her to the groomer is quite expensive and stressful for my dog. I did a little bit of reading, followed some great advice, found a super product, the Dremel 7300-PT 4.8-Volt Pet Grooming Kit. I ordered the grooming kit right away. It was a very long tedious process getting her used to this new object.

I began by setting the sander in the middle of the floor. She crept up to it, then retreated back to me, as I had read she might do, I gave her a treat. Each time she checked it out for longer stints of time, upon each return I gave her a treat. I then went and sat in the floor and held the sander. Norma walked right up to me and sniffed the sander then licked me, I gave her a treat. I then ran the sander over her body and feet with the power still off. She sat still while I did this, so I gave her a treat. I then turned the sander on the lowest setting and held it out. Norma Jean displayed some reservations about it this time, however she came up to smell it, then sat down again, I gave her a treat. Once she seemed more at ease with the sound, I then touched the handle part to her body so she could feel the vibrations, I felt her tense up and turn to nip at it, so I moved it away, I held it up again and let her sniff at it, I gave her a treat. When she seemed relaxed again, I tried running the sander over her body again, and she sat calm and still.

I gave her many belly rubs and praise for this milestone. Next I just touched the sander to one nail for a few seconds then measured her reaction. She was sitting still, I gave a treat, then tried the next nail for a few seconds. I gave praise as a treat after each nail that I filed. Norma was completely brilliant! I was able to actually sand down all of her nails in 20 minutes! That is after I coaxed her into letting me sand them! It doesn’t take quite that long to sand her nails now, we’re both used to it, and I use the higher setting. The sander itself is small, light and well designed so that its easy to hold. It comes with a nifty wrench to put new sanding bands on.

There is also a rechargeable battery and charger that come with this sander. So far for me, the charge has lasted a long time, I can get through all four paws. So I’m exstatic and Norma Jean seems relatively impartial to any of it. At least I don’t have to wrestle her anymore. I would like to thank Dremel for creating the Dremel 7300-PT. They have made pet nail care a more simple way for me to care for my dog’s nails.

The FURminator deShedding Tool is the best dog brush I’ve ever used! Norma Jean, my lovely furry comrade, is a Pug Basset Hound mix. She is terribly cute, but sheds even more terribly. She is blond like a Pug yet sheds like a Basset Hound. I can see the fur flying from her as she walks! This is especially troublesome, as we have tile floors and dark furniture. I’ve always brushed her in the evenings, yet she still was shedding like crazy, I bought this brush as a desperate attempt.

I must say, the FURminator truly stands up to the hype. I was able to remove so much hair from my dog. After about a week of using this brush every night, I began noticing that I didn’t have to sweep Norma Jean’s hair up everyday. I have been using this brush for a couple of months now, I still brush my dog’s fur every night, but I don’t always draw too much loose hair, its more our ritual than anything. I really enjoy the absence of fur tumbleweeds in my house. My dog’s fur seems lighter and she seems happier and cooler. We are both content and we both love each other a little more!

I have a lip balm obsession. I must always have a tube with me where ever I go or else tradgedy ensues. If that weren’t bad enough, I will only use Burt’s Bees Peppermint lip balm. So, in an effort to use more natural chemical free products and save some green, I began making my own lip balms. They are just as effective and were an easy replacement for me. I have only tried the beeswax sold by Natural-Cosmetics. Their beeswax is very sweet smelling and smooth. It heats well and evenly. The beeswax is very easy to manage in 1 oz. bricks, especially as you don’t need a lot of wax for a tube of lip balm! Here is a recipe for making a very good lip balm that I find to be better than Burt’s Bees only because I made it myself! So, try this recipe out! Its a lot of fun to make your own products.

Beeswax Lip Balm Recipe

1⁄2 ounce beeswax
1 teaspoon honey
4 ounces olive oil
Mint extract to taste (I add about 24 drops)

Weigh beeswax and measure remaining ingredients.

In small double boiler, add beeswax and melt. Once melted, add honey and oil, and stir for 1 to 2 minutes. Add extract and stir well. (the honey will not fully mix with the oil because of the water content, but it’s an excellent healing agent for the skin.)

Pour heated mixture into a small glass container or beaker, then distribute into lip balm tins or tubes.

NOTE: Adding more or less beeswax will make the lip balm harder or softer depending on your preference; the harder it is, the longer it stays on your lips. You also can add vitamin E oil or grapefruit seed oil as a preservative. You also can mix oils, such as almond oil, sunflower seed oil and others, depending on the availability and the product you wish to make. Other oils and butters alter the texture and healing properties of the final product.

These are some lip balm tubes, which I recommend, that have found to be very good. They don’t stick or leak. The cap stays on. Plus they look very nice without a label on them!

I enjoy neatness and organization more than many people. I am always trying to find new and better ways to organize and conserve space. I had never considered a folder board, I do a pretty bang up job folding shirts neatly and flatly. However, my method does take quite a bit of time, so I was interested in anything that could help move things along. I looked at various brands and models of folder boards.

I went for the one most reasonably priced for me that also had good feedback. I was not disappointed. The folder board happened to arrive on a day that I was doing laundry. Which was super exciting to me, I had freshly laundered clothing to experiment with! It took a little practice, but all in all it made folding shirts quite simple and enjoyable. I like how uniform all of the folds are. No matter the size of the shirt. I am very pleased to see how organized the dressers around my house are now. This clothes folder is really useful tool to have around, it definitely makes laundry go by more quickly.

I have a keen fondness for teas ever since I discovered that there more options out there than the South’s idea of what tea is. I always try to buy teas that are the least tampered with. Purely of interest I was reading the Wikipedia page for tea and discovered loose leaf tea. I had never considered that tea didn’t have to be confined to a tiny bag. Apparently, from what I’ve read, the bags that enclose the tea can affect the flavor greatly, as can the kettle itself. The metal kettle that I was using was making my tea have a penny after taste. It was clear to me. I must obtain a better kettle that didn’t taint my tea and I must obtain and taste loose-leaf teas of many varieties so that I may delight in an untampered tea nirvana.

As such was my quest, I found the Grosche Munich Glass Infuser Teapot! This teapot, awesome though it it, was not the end of my quest. I carried on to find loose leaf tea so that I may use the included infuser. My search brought me finally to Davidson’s Bulk Teas. That Davidson is an excellent tea supplier. I enjoy the raspberry patch flavor quite a lot, its very tangy and smells wonderful. Perfect wake up for the mornings. Also, another lovely flavor is the herbal orange cranberry flavor. Davidson’s has a wide selection of bulk loose leaf teas.

Every mix I’ve tries so far has been delicious and made me feel quite fancy. Being glass, the Grosche Munich Teapot leaves no taste at all to my tea. The infuser is perfect for loose leaf tea, which makes me very happy as loose leaf tea is perfect for me! The Cuissential Burr grinder really is an awesome grinder. The container is made of glass with a silicone grip on the bottom so it doesn’t slip around the counter as you grind. It takes a bit of getting used to at first, but once you get going grinding is easy! As this is a manual grinder, it takes some time to grind enough coffee for a full pot of coffee. It is really fast for grinding up enough coffee for my travel size coffee mug.

This manual grinder is a wonderful addition to our mornings, its simple, and it helps bring out the very best in whichever coffee we are drinking at the time!

Oh Almond oil! How I love thee! This is one of the many tried and true moisturizing products available for human consumption. Pure almond oil is said to be beneficial to any skin type. I thought I’d try almond oil for my hands as I work with them often and nothing seems to help with their uncomfortable dryness. I was caught completely unaware by how well this stuff worked! I only used it a few times after washing my hands and was surprised by how quickly the dry uncomfortable feeling went away. The Almond Oil absorbed quickly into my skin and there was no oily “I have to wash my hands now!” feeling.

I had also read about Almond Oil being used as a conditioner for hair. I have rebellious curly hair, I mean nothing has ever helped with its manageability, so I was skeptical of it being as much benefit to my hair as my hands. Again, I was pleasantly surprised. I massaged a small amount of the oil to my hair while it was wet then dried it and my hair was very light and barely frizzed at all. Nor did my hair feel weighted down, like some leave in conditioners and oils I’ve tried previously.

I’ve been using almond oil daily for several months now, I am pleased with how much healthy my hands and hair look, it has also worked wonders for my feet and elbows! I’ve been using the Almond Oil as a body moisture only once a week(the rest of the time I use raw shea butter) and my skin continues to look very supple and healthy. After such a wondrous discovery I feel compelled to tell the world! Almond oil is a shockingly affordable and way to keep your skin healthy without any harmful additives.
